the shrew

So.. people ask me all the time what my "dream roles" are.. and i do kind of have a list.. One of the roles that has been on the list since I was just a little-thing is Katherine, or Kate (or THE SHREW) in Taming of the Shrew. However, as I got older, I realized that I really don't feel that I am a very fantastic classical actress. I mean, Shakespeare is hard, right? So, I guess the theatre gods were looking out for me and I found myself in an adapted , shortened version of Taming of Shrew for young audiences- playing one of my "dreams roles".

I must say, that if i were in 3rd-6th grade, I would eat this show up! It's set in a circus, it has crazy costumes, lots of instruments, sound effects, props- crazy things are always going on, and it's just funny.

We started the tour and the run on campus last week, and, while its been one of the craziest and taxing experiences of my life- it's also kind of been one of the most fun and exciting. It's so nice to have kids around to remind you not to take anything too seriously, even your "art". I mean, kids love this silly show and it makes me love it. For a lot of them, it's the first play they have ever seen! And, silly as it sounds, i like that i get to be a part of that.

So- there's my sentimental berb on the show- Please come and see it! Bring any and all small children that you know. I promise a good time. thankyouverymuch.

(we had our final dress rehearsal in a back yard- since we are a traveling show we can go anywhere- it was pretty great_
